Harbor Reflections
Did you see the sunset? My friend asked shortly after I arrived- yes I did, it peaked as our ferry was entering the harbor. Walking along the pier I was mesmerized by the amount of undulating color that was a combination of shadows, reflections, the color of water and the brilliant hues of a spectacular sunset. But it was disappearing quickly and I had luggage and didn't feel like getting my camera out.
I returned diligently for the next few nights, video camera in hand eager to recapture what I saw. No such luck. The first night -dull but with some interesting black water ripples. The next night I mistimed it, it was dark by the time I arrived and the water was choppy. The third night- something completely different. Nothing like the first night- but much softer, the light was pink and dreamy and the reflections much more interesting on the other side of the pier. My attention was completely drawn to the hypnotic rippling mix of pastel light, reflected old painted boats and dark twisting shadows. It wasn't what I was expecting but it was equally beautiful.

Apples and Pears

I grew up with fruit trees in the yard. Our fruit supply further supplemented by the bounty of friends', family and neighbours' yards. How far away now that seems until I come across fruit at the market that still has leaves attached to it. Here an assorted bunch of russet apples, a hybrid pear and apple and a couple of different Asian pears from local farmers at the Provincetown farmers' market create an autum still life set against the rich wood tones of my vacation studio's kitchen counter.
Autumn Beach
On my bike ride to Truro from Provincetown, I rode past this beach and thought the sun was too high and bright to film-everything might look too bleached out. On my return I stopped to take another look and noticed that the dark silhouettes of the people enjoyin the beach might make it interesting and indeed they do I think. They give a sense of scale of this huge beach with its dramatic visual stripes of color and texture. Who would think this was a was fall day?

Berries

This stand caught my eye today at the farmers market- the berries looked almost mysterious in the shadows, sealed in their containers. I was very tempted by the jams that were also on display right next to them but its hard to beat Trader Joe's reduced sugar Organic Raspberry preserves that is a staple in my kitchen.
Pergola
The pergola at Wave Hill that wraps around the water garden is an idyllic spot. We spent our last half hour here in its cool shade enjoying the dappled light and cool shadows.

Eggplants

Again at the Market - this incredible pile of eggplants. My mind pondered on what I would do with them. Slice, breadcrumb and deep fry the big ones. Curry the purple white ones with lentils and stir fry the Chinese ones with tofu and black beans. No idea what I would do with the green ones - never had them before. And then I moved on because I'm waiting for these.
