Cold Geometry

When there is snow and ice in the city, interesting images emerge as they add a pale blunt to the urban geometry simultaneously tracing its lines. Then there is the canvas it provides for shadows to now appear darker and crisper or soft and diffuse. Add people and automobiles to the mix and their tracks provide yet another element to the picture. On the left, somewhere near chinatown the circular bed and double shadow strangely remind me of a bowl and chopsticks. On the right, near my apartment, the tyre tracks of the park warden's vehicles add an expressionistic mark to counterpoint the soft shadows and the clean line of the wall.
