The Future of Trees

In April 2007, walking through Madison Square Park I saw this thought provoking scene of the installation of Roxy Paine's metal tree sculptures. I wondered then, is this the future of trees? That we will someday be required to build them? In December 2007 I saw them again and thought how beautiful they looked on a cold winter's day, their stainless steel limbs magnifying the dull winter light. Today I came across two random pieces of information about Air Trees and Plastic Trees and thought how uncanny that the Madison Square trees were a premonition of things to come.

Late Hot Color

A noticeable new development in the farmers market this week - intense colors from bunches of summer flowers like these Bachelor Buttons. The Zinnias above looked the best contrasted against their dull metal containers. The hot color coincides with the cooler weather of the past week making way for a return to hotter weather. It seems a little odd to be shutting the windows and turning the air conditioning back on but I not complaining.
