Close Up

I'm not terribly motivated to get technical about the photographs I take -no fancy lenses in my repertoire, however, I do love to look at the work of photographers that do use them. My friend Shaun is one of them and I occasionally get an email from him alerting me to his latest batch. Here's a gorgeous one from his recent shoot at the US Botanical Garden.

Alfalva Van

I love seeing this van, a regular at the Union Square market. Its owned by the people who sell wheatgrass and alfalfa for juicing or for your pet to munch on. Its a symbolic reminder of the effort required living in an urban environment to keep connected with nature- you have to pay someone to grow your grass and drive it in to the city for you. The van is also a flashback to what my good friend Kelly calls "Hippy Shake"- remember patchouli oil and long hair and granola before it became Wholefoods ? Peace.

Ocean Gate

I enjoy the glimpses you get walking down Commercial St. in Provincetown, sudden and tantalizing views of the water, I think often made more so when they are framed between two buildings or as in this picture framed beyond a gateway. I was also intrigued by this image, a visualization perhaps of the sea change happening in this town as the wealthy increasingly stake their presence gradually edging out the more bohemian artistic community.

Cottage Wall

I guess I'm drawn to the same things whether I'm in the city or away from it. I love the complexity of shades of green and textures that I found here on the wall of a cottage on the aptly named Cottage Street. I also like the contrast of the aged mossy wall with the fresh leaf greens.
